Vůdce senátní menšiny, republikán Mitch McConnell, hovořil o „zpackaném stažení“ Američanů a jejich afghánských spolupracovníků a o „hektické evakuaci“. Podle McConnella je to selhání amerického vedení. Ke kritikům se připojil i bývalý americký prezident Donald Trump, jehož administrativa se k úplnému stažení amerických i aliančních vojsk z Afghánistánu při jednání s Tálibánem zavázala.
