Life-changing mental support

VOLUNTARY groups and charities helping communities recover from Covid have been boosted with grants through a partnership between Wessex Water and Wiltshire Community Foundation. The Wessex Water Recovery Fund is part of the Wessex Water Foundation, a multi-million pound initiative launched last June. Grants have been targeted at people struggling with money, schemes to strengthen communities, green recovery initiatives and projects to enhance nature and wildlife. Among the recipients of the £43,000 awarded through Wiltshire Community Foundation, is Help Counselling Services in Trowbridge. The Trowbridge group has received £2,500 to provide more low-cost counselling to people struggling with the lockdowns. The grant will help reduce the time people have to wait to see a counsellor, which can be up to ten weeks.

The charity will use the cash to develop and consolidate sustainable growth over the next three years. Meg Aubrey, youth and community manager at Trowbridge Future, said: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work. “Now we will be able to confidently press on with our plans to widen the range of opportunities available to local residents, which creates a sense of inclusion, helping to alleviate social isolation and loneliness.” Zoe Meaden, manager of Trowbridge Future’s Hub in The Shires shopping centre, added: “It’s fantastic. It’s an absolute game-changer for us and will help to safeguard our activities.”
