Minister urged to ensure construction of Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School is expedited

LMFM By Ruth O Connell Minister Norma Foley announced two months ago the project would be delivered under her department s Design and Build programme Local Sinn Féin TD Imelda Munster has called on the Minister for Education, Norma Foley to ensure that the building of the Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School on the Mill Road in Donacarney is expedited. It s two months since the Minister announced that the school would be delivered under the Department’s Design and Build programme which usually takes 18 months or less. The school s Parents’ Building Committee has concerns that the project is only at pre-planning stage and may not be ready to open until 2024 or later.

School decision is a victory for common sense - finally!

After weeks of upheaval, tears, shock and anger, the decision to relocate the Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School to a site at St Oliver s CC was finally reversed last week. What appeared to be a snap decision to build a new 500 student school on the Rathmullen Road in the space of a few months caused outrage amongst everyone concerned with the Mill Road school. But students began their own campaign to stay in their present home and the pressure eventually brought its reward - with a hint of common sense thrown in. Educate Together confirmed that the Department of Education had reached agreement in principle to purchase a permanent site for the school which incorporates its current temporary site on Mill Road, so that a permanent building can be constructed at the school s current location.
