Chatham-Kent is “going in the right direction,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff as the Ontario government approved moving the municipality to the orange-restrict level of the province’s colour-coded pandemic response framework as of 12:01 a.m. Monday.
Canniff is hopeful Chatham-Kent can continue to move toward having even less restrictions under the provincial framework in the coming weeks.

Noting the orange-restrict level allows 50 people inside businesses such as restaurants and casinos, making it more economical for those venues to open, the mayor said patience is still needed.

According to the management of Fairfield Village, the facemasks given to staff at the home met health requirements following independent laboratory testing. Unifor alleged on Feb. 4 Fairfield Park purchased non-medical grade masks for its employees and only removed them after the union did their own research to disprove the employer’s claims that the masks were government approved. At the time President of Unifor Local 2458, Tullio DiPonti blamed an outbreak at the home on the owners.
