Rhea County Native Janet Layman Honored By TSSAA

Rhea County Native Janet Layman Honored By TSSAA Tuesday, January 19, 2021 - by John Brice Janet Layman It was, for all intents and purposes, busy work. A gifted student but with limited extracurricular activities, eighth-grader Janet Layman was given a proposal to help the basketball teams at Rhea County High School: keep the scorebook. Nothing since then has been the same for Layman, honored this month as the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Distinguished Service Award recipient for her longstanding work with the TSSAA – particularly at championship events. “The basketball coach who was also one of my teachers decided he would teach me to do the scorebook and my parents let me do and it just kind of stuck,” said Layman.

(WTVF) — Nearly a dozen Nashville colleges and universities are spreading kindness for their Martin Luther King day tradition. Although it has to be virtually this year because of the pandemic, students tell us the message remains the same. Participating schools include TSU, Fisk University, Meharry Medical College, Belmont University, Trevecca Nazarene, Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University, and Nashville State Community College. Altogether about 300 people are participating. In previous years, students would meet up at one of their schools before being bused to different locations throughout the city to volunteer.

Start looms on Trevecca-area project | Nashville Post

To be undertaken by Nashville-based Elmington Capital Group, the project will rise on a 5.9-acre site at 101 Factory St., just south of the Trevecca campus. TNU owns the property, having paid $685,000 for it in October 2015, according to Metro records. No groundbreaking has been announced. Southeast Venture Design will oversee the architectural work with Catalyst Design Group handling land-planning and engineering duties, according to a document submitted to Metro. The three buildings addressing Factory, Culvert and Geyser streets would stand four stories at their tallest points and house a collective 204 residential units. Fifty-four will be studio and one-bedroom units, 105 will have two bedroom and 45 will have three bedrooms, the document notes. Plans show the project will feature a small dog park.
