On the campus of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, the cafeteria is the main hub for eating and activities.
With the COVID-19 crisis limiting access and cutting into the hours of operation, however, students and staff are now adjusting.
âWeâre kind of in a food desert, especially with like healthy food,â said Ashley Cosby, a Fisk University biology major. âItâs hard to find healthy food close to campus.â
Normally, more than 800 students would come there for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Now, itâs pickup only.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Nearly a dozen Nashville colleges and universities are spreading kindness for their Martin Luther King day tradition.
Although it has to be virtually this year because of the pandemic, students tell us the message remains the same.
Participating schools include TSU, Fisk University, Meharry Medical College, Belmont University, Trevecca Nazarene, Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University, and Nashville State Community College.
Altogether about 300 people are participating.
In previous years, students would meet up at one of their schools before being bused to different locations throughout the city to volunteer.
