PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Staff shortages have restaurant owners pleading for patience and understanding with slower service.
The job website JobList recently released the findings from a poll that showed a third of hospitality workers won’t return to the industry.
“It has become an overwhelming challenge to navigate daily,” said Angelina Stickhouser, who owns Alberto’s Pizza in Port Orange with her husband.
She said the service industry has become an even more stressful work environment since the pandemic.
“We just decided to have a time out on Tuesdays and close down on Tuesdays,” she said.

Tricia Phillippi works closely with restaurants. She said a growing number of places are cutting back hours, scaling back menus and even closing additional days.
The problem has gotten so bad she created the Restaurant Job Connection Facebook page. Since she started it less than three weeks ago, it has gained more than 500 members.

(CNN) A Taco Bell employee so loved by his community that he s known as Taco Bell Joe received a $6,095 tip raised by hundreds of his supporters.
For nearly 20 years, Joe DeCicco has worked at the drive-through window of a Taco Bell in South Daytona, Florida. He refers to all his customers as friends, remembers his guests by name and his contagious smile makes it hard for anyone to forget him.
So when Tricia Phillippi started a contest asking people to nominate their favorite local food industry worker who would then receive a prize it wasn t hard to see why DeCicco won by a landslide.

One beloved fast food employee is finishing out 2020 with a huge bonus thanks to some supportive members of his community.
The 70-year-old Taco Bell employee received a $6,095 check raised by hundreds of people who fondly refer to him as Taco Bell Joe.”
Taco Bell Joe, whose real name is Joe DeCicco, was awarded the holiday bonus through a contest where Tricia Phillippi asked locals to “nominate their favorite local food industry worker,” according to CNN.
DeCicco has worked at the Taco Bell drive-through window in South Daytona, Florida for 20 years, and is known for his jubilance and warmth toward customers.
