TCTC board approves tax abatement for Lordstown company | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com CHAMPION The Trumbull Career and Technical Center Board by an 11-7 vote gave approval for a 15-year tax abatement request for Clean Energy Future Trumbull LLC. The company is planning the construction of an energy generation facility in an enterprise zone and is seeking a 15-year tax exemption for 100 percent of the value of real and tangible personal property improvements constructed as part of the project. The vote of the 20-member board, which had two members absent Thursday, was unusual since most of the decisions acted upon usually receive a unanimous vote. The village of Lordstown and the Trumbull County commissioners are permitted to grant enterprise zone exemptions in excess of 75 percent of the improved value of the project for up to 15 years if approved by the affected school district.

Or they can be like Cathy McCauley, who, on a chilly Friday afternoon, lined up her Smith & Wesson .22-caliber long-barrel pistol on a paper target across an expanse of a soppy green yard surrounded by the woods of the Vienna Fish and Game Club. This is not the virtual world. It’s the real live outdoors for this girl and her gun.

TCTC to hold graduation at Eastwood Field | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com CHAMPION After having to cancel the 2020 graduation ceremony because of the coronavirus pandemic and other conflicts, Trumbull Career and Technical Center officials have found a way to make sure this year’s senior class has one. Mary Flint, director of the TCTC, said they have worked out arrangements to hold the ceremony 7:30 p.m. May 17 at Eastwood Field in Niles, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. “We felt really bad last year when we were not able to do the event for the seniors. All the schools were facing challenges on how to hold graduations. This year we have found a new venue for the event. We are very excited to be able to do this,” Flint said.

H Douglas Wilcox 1950-2021 | News, Sports, Jobs

AUSTINTOWN H. Douglas Wilcox, 70, peacefully passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Doug was born Sept. 6, 1950, the only son of Harrison Burky and Helen McClure Wilcox. He was a lifetime resident of Austintown and a member of Austintown Community Church. While growing up in the church, an important part of his life was scouting. He worked hard to receive his God and Country award and subsequently his Eagle Scout award. He enjoyed reading, outdoor activities, being with friends and crafts. Several of his creations received blue-ribbon awards at the Canfield Fair. He was a member of the World War II Heritage Society, Mahoning County Retired Teachers, Ohio Education Association, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, M Club of Mount Union, 33rd Degree Club of the Valley of Youngstown and the Austintown Friends of the Public Library. Doug served as vice president and program chairman for the Friends for 11 years.
