The brand’s forte lies in its signature 10-layer lacquer process. An unparalleled expertise helmed by the brand, the lacquering process requires the utmost finesse from artisanal craftsmen. The manifold procedure begins by meticulously coating each piece with at least four layers of primer to better intensify the applied lacquer colour. Individual lacquered layers are then varnished to seal in the vivid colour tones.

Artisans will subsequently hand-polish each piece, tirelessly working to ensure that the creation radiates a luxurious shine and smoothness. This deft expertise has enabled the brand to make its mark with elegant pieces that boast a strong personality.

Another piece from the gallery is installed on the mezzanine, next to the Tatler Bar.
Polyhedron, a work by Chinese artist Julie Zhu, was inspired by a polyhedral lamp that she deconstructed into a two-dimensional form. Numerous semicircles have been painstakingly hand-drawn onto the geometric form at the centre of the canvas.
The polyhedron is a metaphor for the multifaceted elements of a person’s identity both the qualities intrinsic to the individual and the characteristics shaped by our social roles and other circumstances. The 18k gold foil detailing evokes the brightness and vitality of the sun, in contrast to the ephemeral human lifespan. The metallic detail also picks up the gold finish of the bar shelves and island counter.
Unique Experience
Abraham s goal was to create a progressive and evocative space that translates the Tatler DNA of power, influence and style. I wanted to evoke the luxurious nature of the Tatler lifestyle and infuse that with a sense of locality, she explains. As such the space is a marriage of modern luxury meets young and playful brought through a balanced blend of raw and refined, high and low, muted and bold.
Indeed the result echoes Malaysian culture in a new and innovative way, where local talents are celebrated while the interplay of influences, materiality, and colours lends an unexpected edge for a space that is refreshing and unique in Kuala Lumpur.
Abraham takes guests through a journey of colours and textures, beginning with the receiving area showcasing the Tatler House logo mounted on a custom-built screen amongst a striking orange and black palette. The walls are adorned with large-scale artwork, namely Anniketyni Madian s
Berasok wooden sculpture and Justin Lim s edgy mixed-media

(Buden), are just the start of discovering the breadth of the AFK Collection who generously loaned all the art found in the suite.
The mood shifts walking into the living room where Abraham created a calming space evocative of California chic with a warm palette of soft neutrals against earthy tones. An eclectic range of furniture from Arketipo, Olta and Janine, to name a few, feature relaxed proportions, while statement pieces such as the handcrafted armchair with wicker detail from Nic Chris and contemporary hand-made carpets Persian Collections captivate the eye.
