The Eagle Hotel, run by Eric and Suzanne De Venny, has been cited by the Brewing Good Cheer campaign as a “shining example” of a hostelry that really makes a difference and puts the community first.

The Scottish government rejected proposals for an 18-hole championship course in the area of coastal dunes last February. A group called Communities For Coul has resurrected the idea of building a course, arguing that it would bring much-needed jobs. Environmental campaigners say Coul Links should be protected. Communities For Coul s proposals are separate from the previous plans for a course on the land at Embo near Dornoch.

Something went wrong - please try again later. Sign Up A Sutherland teenager has learned to cope with the debilitating effects of arthritis through embracing her creative side. Zoe MacBeath from Dornoch was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), a condition which causes persistent joint pain, swelling and stiffness, as well as other complications such as eye inflammation. To help her come to terms with her condition, the 13-year-old was referred to mental health charity the Teapot Trust’s art therapist Nicola Kennell.

Covid Scotland: Staycation boom expected once lockdown ends

Tourism bosses and tourists alike have their eyes firmly set on the easing of lockdown restrictions - and while holidays abroad are still largely discouraged, a Scottish staycation is still on the cards for many. The Caravan and Motorhome Club, with 30 campsites and 2,465 pitches in Scotland, says it expects to be inundated with bookings in the months to come. Director general Nick Lomas said that despite the difficulties brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 season was looking far more promising. He told The Herald: “2020 was a very difficult year for the tourism and hospitality sector as a whole, but I’m delighted to say that when our campsites were allowed to be open last year, our staff worked incredibly hard to get them ready and ensure they were Covid-secure and we actually saw record levels of bookings.

The couple, who live in Brora, have pledged to walk at least 50 miles each during the course of February and their dog Selkie will be accompanying them all the way.
