Roger Pond had a unique way of looking at farm life

Roger Pond had a unique way of looking at farm life Chuck Bell I always enjoy reading the articles about farm life that my cohorts Dorothy Montgomery and Iris Eppley write for the Times Recorder. The article that Iris wrote last month really caught my attention in a special way when she mentioned Roger Pond, an old college roommate of mine, and his book It’s Hard to Look Cool When Your Car’s Full of Sheep. Roger grew up on a dairy farm in western Ohio, graduated from Ohio State and then moved to Goldendale, Washington, where he worked as a county extension agent. Then he worked several years as a photojournalist for Dow Chemical, interviewing farmers and ranchers in the Pacific Northwest before becoming a full-time writer. His stories were syndicated in 50 newspapers in the west and northwest.

Muskingum County employee is retiring after 30 years of service

WHIZ News Muskingum County Employee Retires after 30 Years of Service Debbie Irwin has served the County Commissioners as a benefits administrator. She explained what her responsibilities entailed. “I just sign up the new hires for their insurance benefits, help them explain how their coverages work and what benefits are available to them through the county,” Irwin said. Irwin will miss the many friends she made along the way in the county. “Starting out here in the Commissioners Office out front, under Chuck Elson, George Buchanan, and Don Diltz, and lots of others over the years; Larry Marry, Dorothy Montgomery, just to name a few, I’ve learned a lot and it was a pleasure working for the county and you know serving people… just being able to help people,” Irwin said.
