As rivals Manchester City pulled out of the controversial new competition, many of Liverpool s biggest names posted or endorsed a message from the squad.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp expressed reservations on Monday, as did veteran midfielder James Milner, but the latest development was flagged as a squad-wide rebuttal of the Fenway Sports Group s plans to take the club into the closed-shop league.
Among those to post the message on Twitter were captain Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Virgil van Dijk re-posted Henderson s tweet, with an arrow pointing to the statement.

Liverpool Football Club’s principle owner, John W Henry, has apologised to the fans, players, manager, and employees after the club attempted to form a breakaway European Super League that collapsed in spectacular fashion just two days after it was announced due to the grassroots backlash.
I want to apologise to all the fans and supporters of Liverpool Football Club for the disruption I caused over the past 48 hours.
It goes without saying but should be said that the project put forward was never going to stand without the support of the fans. No-one ever thought differently in England. Over these 48 hours you were very clear that it would not stand. We heard you. I heard you.

Speaking to
Sky Sports, ex-Reds defender Carragher has said of the Super League proposals and the impact they could have on his former club: From my club, the only reason Liverpool are in this is or have a chance in being in this Super League, is because they ve won six European Cups and 20 league titles. Only one of each came under FSG. They have used everything Liverpool have done in their history, going to even before Bill Shankly, to line their own pockets. The biggest thing is that everyone s against it. Jurgen Klopp spoke about this in 2019 and made his stance very clear.
