Rose City 5K Run set for downtown on May 20
The socially-distanced run will be held along the seawall in Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
A socially-distanced 5K run to help revitalize downtown Portland is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 20.
The Rose City 5K Run is sponsored by the Portland Business Alliance and presented by Nike. It will take place along the seawall in Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
A portion of proceeds from the event will go to support the Portland Parks Foundation and their work to maintain and support the city s parks system. Donations by runners totaling up to $1,500 will be matched by the alliance.

Winter is over, and for a few months, Portland won’t be blanketed in grey clouds and rain. Many Portlanders will look to take advantage of this limited window of warm air and sunny skies, but If you’re having a hard time deciding what to do or are looking for new ways to get outside, here are some of our favorite activities that get us out of the virtual newsroom to enjoy the weather.
Morgan Troper, Arts & Culture Editor: I got a dog this time last year, so I’ve become very acquainted with the dog parks across Portland. Spending time around a bunch of strangers and their dogs was something that made me a little uncomfortable at the start of the pandemic, but going to the dog park with my Texas Heeler whose name is Jet, after the Paul McCartney and Wings song, naturally has become one of my favorite outdoor pastimes.

Hannah Ahern was arrested on August 17, 2019, on the outskirts of anti-fascist protest taking place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The protest was held in opposition to another rally taking place on the waterfront organized by the Proud Boys, a right-wing extremist group (now known for leading the January 6 attack on the US Capitol).
Ahern was leaving work downtown when she noticed the counter-protest, and stopped to see what was going on. That s when she observed a woman be thrown to the ground by Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers, yelling in pain as police handcuffed her (that woman was later cleared by a jury). When officers yelled at Ahern and others to back away from the arrest, she crossed the street.
