Top tier production bros Mark Ronson and Diplo have dropped Volume 3 of their ‘Especially 4 U’ mix series and boy, it slaps.
Each artist has in their own right earned themselves the title of being a trustworthy source of ultra-smooth electronic so when the pairing initially announced their Silk City project in 2018 we knew we’d be treated just right.
Since their inception, they’ve dropped some fairly large originals including “Electricity” featuring Dua Lipa and more recently, a track with Ellie Goulding – the late of which will pave the way for a full album.
Diplo & Mark Ronson’s Silk City just released their newest single “New Love” with Ellie Goulding after a nearly three-year hiatus, and they just dropped their newest “Especially 4 U” mix following the release.
The mix is an hour of delicious disco, funky house goodness with cuts from Dombresky, Dom Dolla, A-Trak, Channel Tres, of course Silk City, and more.

They beat out some strong local competition with Spacey Jane’s ‘Booster Seat’ landing at #2 and Flume and Toro y Moi’s ‘The Difference’ at #3. Northern Beaches crew Lime Cordiale had a blinder, with five songs appearing in the top 30 of the countdown.
On Sunday, triple j counted down the Hottest 200 the tracks that
just missed the final cut of the main ranking. Middle Kids snaffled #101 with ‘R U 4 Me?’, while Tame Impala came in at #200 with ‘Posthumous Forgiveness’. Tkay Maidza, meanwhile, received some justice for missing out on the top 100 with her excellent track ‘Shook’ by taking out #125.

Just like that Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 2020 has come and gone and with it, a pretty solid list of great music from around the globe as voted by the public!
Thankfully, dance and electronic got a look in with big burners from Flume, Stace Kadet & KLP, Gorgon City, Cosmos’ Midnight and more all making the cut.
While a portion of these aren’t straight club rompers, the artists behind the music have a strong background in the genre… be it sampling or performance or previous releases and why we included them!

For dance and electronic music, the year s primary existential questions were about context. What is this music for and where does it best exist during a time when festivals are cancelled, desert raves are policed, club kids can t go to the club and house parties are potentially lethal?
There was no great answer. While a lot of the dance music released in 2020 got major play on radio, in headphones and via computer speakers during livestreams, I can t wait for this to be over was the leading consensus among the global dance music community particularly as COVID dealt blow after blow to the worldwide nightlife industry.
