Body removed from Rachel Spring hotpool in Rotorua’s Government Gardens.
Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in a hotpool in Rotorua’s Government Gardens last Tuesday is “not being treated as suspicious”. “Police are making inquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner,” a police spokesperson said. “The coroner will release their findings in due course. We’re not yet in a position to release a name.” The Rev Tom Poata was also at the site and performed a blessing once the body was removed.

A body has been recovered from one of the hot pools in Rotorua’s Government Gardens. Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand and St John Ambulance staff were at the scene on Tuesday morning where the body was removed from the Rachel Spring. A police spokesperson said they were called just after 10am “to a report of a body”.

Police were notified about 10am of a body found in the Rachel Spring. The cordon around the pool has since been lifted and the spokesperson said inquiries into the circumstances of the death were under way.

Last year saw a very different way of commemorating Anzac Day with New Zealanders in lockdown due to Covid-19.
This year, the installation of the Rotorua District Field of Remembrance on April 16 marks the start of public Anzac commemorations in the district.
The field of crosses will be installed at the Cenotaph in Government for the last time.

Tarewa Place was full of excitement recently as the long-awaited opening of a building that will become a service hub for older people was held.
The official opening of Parksyde House and the welcoming of Age Concern Rotorua to its new premises was held last Thursday.
The Parksyde House was a former custodian house, which will now have Age Concern Rotorua onsite, and is next to the Parksyde Centre.
The Older Persons Community Centre Trust (Parksyde) had repurposed and renovated 5 Tarewa Place, thanks to funding from the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust.
