Robin Elise Maaya, Savannah College of Art and Design student, captures the beauty, joy and whimsical nature of twins through photographing sisters Ava and Ruby. “Home Away From Home” is a photography exhibition that documents the family she has been a respite care nanny for since fall 2019.
“Home Away From Home” is a photo exhibition of a family that lives in harmony with a special needs child. Ruby has cerebral palsy and non-verbal autism, which limits her cognitive awareness and makes her unable to care for herself.
“When I first began photographing the Pendergrass family, I was doing so with the intention of showing the ‘normal-ness’ of their lives and attempting to elevate them to an ethereal realm,” Maaya said.
WAUKESHA - The village has its first elected president, and it s not the former town chairman.
In unofficial election results Tuesday, challenger Michael Doerr defeated Brian Tom Fischer for the leadership position Fischer had held through the municipality s transition from town to village in 2020.
Doerr expressed gratitude for what he felt was a reaffirmation on his campaign in a race separated by only 262 votes.
Doerr netted 1,362 votes, or 55.3% of the total, to Fischer s 1,100 votes (44.6%), according to unofficial tallies. The hard work my supporters put in over the past weeks helped me convince the voters it was time for fresh leadership, Doerr said in a statement late Tuesday. It is humbling to have such strong community support for my campaign and the direction I want to lead our village.
