Stalled Milwaukee apartment development gets more time due to COVID-19

A long-stalled Park East strip apartment development is getting more time from Milwaukee County officials to begin construction  but that work could start in 2021. Construction on the Avenir project is planned on a site formerly owned by the county between North Jefferson, North Milwaukee and East Lyon streets and East Ogden Avenue. That work was to begin in 2020. But developer Weidner Investment Services Inc., based in Kirkland, Washington, delayed the project because of the COVID-19 pandemic s economic effects. Weidner now plans to begin construction no later than April 2022, with completion by November 2023. Work could start in 2021, according to a county report.

Conversion of Pabst malt house to apartments set for June opening

The long-delayed transformation of Pabst Brewing Co. s former downtown Milwaukee malt house into apartments is nearing an end. Renovations at the Malt House Lofts, 1009 W. Juneau Ave., are in full out completion mode right now, said Robert Lubin, who s leading the development team. The projected opening of the Malt House is June, Lubin said. We should have the entire building ready to go, he said. The project, previously known as Brewery Lofts, is converting the former Pabst brewery s malt house and grain warehouse into 118 apartments on seven floors. It is a relief to hit the home stretch, said Lubin, a Herndon, Virginia, attorney and project investor. I am very confident it will be seen as worth the wait.

Bayside apartments destroyed by 2019 fire to be replaced

A Bayside apartment building destroyed in a 2019 fire is to be replaced under a new plan. Katz Properties Inc. is proposing to build a 56-unit, three-story apartment building at 9009 N. White Oak Lane. The building would replace a 62-unit apartment building destroyed in a March 2019 fire at White Oaks Apartments. At least 14 people were rescued and more than 100 residents were displaced in that blaze. The badly damaged building was later demolished. The new building will be built on top of the existing parking structure, and will include the corporate offices for Katz Properties, according to a Bayside Plan Commission report.
