Gonzaga Lands Former Four-Star Kentucky Commit Nolan Hickman Jr.

After decommitting from Kentucky, 2021 four-star point guard and Sammamish, Washington native Nolan Hickman Jr. has decided to play for the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Hickman is the top-rated player out of Utah and ranked No. 29 overall by the 247 Sports composite score. Hickman transferred from Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue to Wasatch Academy in Utah last summer to be able to play a senior year of college basketball. He averaged 16 points per game this past season and was named a McDonald’s All-American.

The Bears throttled the Bulldogs, 86-70, winning Baylor s first national title in program history. The loss marked Gonzaga s (31-1) only defeat of the season, four months after the two schools regular-season game was canceled due to COVID-19.
Chet Holmgren unzipped his sweater to reveal a t-shirt with images of himself in a Gonzaga jersey on the Monday afternoon edition of SportsCenter. The No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2021 according to ESPN, Rivals, and 247 Sports will head to college to play for a Zags program that just came excruciatingly close to being crowned men’s college basketball first undefeated national champion since Indiana in 1976.
Holmgren is a self-described “6’12 big guard” who established himself as a blue chip prospect during a dominant high school career at Minneapolis’ Minnehaha Academy. Holmgren teamed with Jalen Suggs for his first three years of high school basketball at Minnehaha, and he’s following Suggs’ footsteps again by choosing Gonzaga. Like Suggs, Holmgren is also expected to be a top NBA draft pick after one season in Spokane.

INDIANAPOLIS From Nov. 26 through the early evening of April 5, the 2020-21 Gonzaga Bulldogs felt like a Death Star laying waste to everything in their path.
They opened the season with an even-more-convincing-than-the-final-margin 102-90 victory over preseason No. 6 Kansas. The following morning, the Zags bludgeoned Auburn by 23 points. Game No. 3 against West Virginia got a little dicey when Jalen Suggs suffered a lower-leg injury and Drew Timme fouled out on an off night, but they still eked out the victory.
From there, it was 27 consecutive wins by double digits.
Both for competitive and historical reasons, the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA men's basketball tournament are the hunted. To start, the rankings tell us they are the best teams in the country.
