Food cold chain sustainability part of £2.9m award to University of Birmingham to support energy-related projects
Researchers have secured £1.4m of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding to produce a landmark roadmap for how the UK s extensive cold food chain industry can curb its significant emissions.
The University of Birmingham is leading the four-year project, which aims to set out the ways the cold food chain can align with the UK s climate goals whilst remaining competitive, it announced late last week.
Academics from Heriot-Watt University, London South Bank University, and Cranfield University are also involved in the government-backed project, which will bring together scientists, innovators, customers, and retailers to map a whole-system approach to reducing the emissions impact of the sector.
