He was a dapper old man white cap and blue polo shirt, like he’d just stepped off the golf course who even into his 90s ate several slices of pizza a day.
Sam Spera, who slept under the pizza oven at his Wildwood sandwich shop, Sam’s Steaks, in the 1950s because he couldn’t afford a room and went on to open legendary boardwalk pizzeria Sam’s Pizza Palace, has died. He was 92.
The announcement was made on the pizzeria’s Facebook page, which immediately was filled with condolences.
