David and Michael Cordua Do The Lymbar, Van Leeuwen Sweetens Rice Village

The Lymbar, 4201 Main, is coming to The Ion this fall. The craft cocktail bar and restaurant is bringing Latin and Mediterranean flavors from chef David Cordua, currently executive chef and owner of David + Michael Cordua Events. Cordua is also the former executive chef/owner of Americas and Churrascos. Cordua is partnering with his father Michael Cordua on the new project. This will be the first brick and mortar concept from father and son since their departure from Cordua Restaurants in  September 2018.  Michael Cordua, a native of Nicaragua, founded the critically acclaimed Churrascos in 1988, introducing Houston to a new wave of Latin cuisine. Son David was born in Houston and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. David helped to oversee the family s restaurant group concepts, Americas, Churrascos, Artista and Amazon Grill from 2007 to 2018. Churrascos and Amazon Grill on the Go are now operated by Churrascos Restaurant Group.

Craft Burger Opens in Katy, Kosher Bagel Shop in Bellaire

Craft Burger, 21945 Katy Freeway, opened December 26. This is the first brick and mortar for Shannen Tune, who began the business as a highly successful food truck in 2015. Craft Burger then took up residence as one of the vendors at Finn Hall in December 2018, a downtown food hall that has been temporarily (we hope) closed due to the pandemic. During that time, Tune has been using a ghost kitchen at Blodgett Street Food Hall to operate multiple concepts including Thick Chick, which he debuted earlier this year. The new concept, which features spicy hot chicken sandwiches, will be on the menu at the new Craft Burger location as will Pecking Order, Tune s fried chicken brand. Tune plans to add rotisserie-style chicken and grilled chicken to the concept  including jerk chicken as a nod to his wife Stacey s Jamaican upbringing.  Stacey is also a professional chef.

Kanau Sushi began a quiet soft opening last weekend and will celebrate its grand opening January 14, 2021. Located in the Drewery Place high-rise (2850 Fannin St.), Kanau features the talents of chef Mike Lim, who partnered with former colleagues Vinh Nguyen, Harry Nguyen, and Tony Le on the restaurant. Best known for his time at Roka Akor and Katy s Tobiuo Sushi, Lim serves a French-influenced take on Japanese fare.  For example, the menu offers beef tartare that s seasoned with sweet soy and pea shoots, as well as pesto ribeye. Overall, the menu includes a wide selection of hot and cold appetizers and a mix of both creative and traditional sushi rolls. Chef Mike Lim has opened Kanau Sushi at high-rise apartment Drewery Place, located at 2850 Fannin St., according to a Monday release. Lim, whose resume includes stints at Napa’s Morimoto and San Francisco’s Roka Akor, left Tobiuo Sushi in late 2019. The Katy restaurant was lauded by Houston Chronicle food critic Alison Cook in 2018 as “Houston s next great sushi bar.
