Last year, we were all stuck at home. The coronavirus pandemic raged, canceling many holiday plans.
But now, with Memorial Day weekend unofficially kicking off the summer of 2021, and with 52.1% of Pennsylvanians adults fully vaccinated, life is returning to normal.
And lots of people will be hitting the road for the long weekend, eager to make up for lost time.
That is, unless gas prices keep them close to home.
Busy travel weekend
About 37 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more away from home this Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA.

Government and industry officials reiterated Wednesday that there is no gasoline shortage but that “panic buying” of gasoline has resulted in shortages at some gas stations on the East Coast, and officials are asking motorists to only buy as much gasoline as they need.
This comes after a cyberattack last week on the Colonial Pipeline, the nation’s largest fuel pipeline caused it to shut down its operations on Friday. Hackers linked to Russia locked up computer systems and demanded a ransom to release them.
