Hayward officers shoot, kill driver who allegedly hit police vehicles multiple times, chief says

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) An investigation is underway in Hayward after officers shot and killed a driver who allegedly hit police vehicles multiple times.
Hayward Police Chief Toney Chaplin says the shooting happened Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. at Motel 6 on Industrial Parkway near Whipple Rd.
Chief Chaplin says the officers were investigating several recent robberies in the area, and say they found a vehicle matching the suspect s car in the motel s parking lot. When Hayward police officers attempted to detain several subjects inside, the driver accelerated, striking police vehicles multiple times. Then an officer-involved shooting occurred. The driver of the vehicle was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said Chief Chaplin.
