HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and Urban Engine are gearing up to host the 4th annual HusdonAlpha Tech Challenge (HATCH).
The challenge will be held April 16 through April 25.
HATCH is a unique life sciences hackathon that brings together college and high school students, and professionals across the state. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hackathon will take place virtually this year.

Alabama automakers eying worldwide semiconductor shortage

Alabama’s auto manufacturing plants are keeping an eye on a global semiconductor shortage that is affecting production around the world.
The shortage is being felt in the United States, with Fiat-Chrysler set to idle two North American assembly plants and Ford halting production in Louisville, Ky. Reports say Volkswagen is also considering a production slowdown.
The problem? Microchips are an integral part of modern automobiles, with some requiring up to 150 per vehicle. But the COVID-19 pandemic, as with other industries, first interrupted production of semiconductors, then amped up demand for them.
