United States 1990 Eisenhower Centennial Dollar
The
1990 Eisenhower Centennial Dollar is the second United States coin struck to honor the 34th President of the United States, the first was the circulating Eisenhower dollar issued from 1971-1978.
Authorized by Public Law 100-467 (Act of October 3, 1988), which authorized the striking of up to 4,000,000 silver dollars to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The large mintage was typical for the early period of U.S. modern commemorative coinage and the Act called for the use of silver from the United States Strategic Materials Stockpile. The issue did not sell out. Instead a total of 34.6% of the authorized mintage was sold. The 1990 Eisenhower Centennial Dollar was offered in two finishes (Proof and uncirculated) and at two price points. The pre-sale price point was $23 ($41.85 Adjusted for Inflation) for the uncirculated version and $25 ($45.49) for the Proof. Regular price was $26 ($47.31) for

Project Grace plans call for a museum and library to be joined on a downtown county-owned parcel. Private apartments will flourish too, according to an agreement between New Hanover County and Zimmer Development Company that will guide the demolition and rebuilding of various county parcels. NEW HANOVER COUNTY Plans to demolish and reconstruct multiple county properties will be presented to the board of county commissioners March 15.
After years of evaluation and reconsideration, Project Grace is once again top of mind for New Hanover County officials. The name refers to a block of downtown land that houses the county-owned library and parking deck; the plan is to redevelop the site potentially the Cape Fear Museum as well in a public-private partnership.
Listen to the story here.
Project Grace is New Hanover County’s redevelopment project for the downtown library block. Ahead of a vote by county commissioners, representatives of the Cape Fear Museum and the New Hanover County Library are weighing in on changes they’d like to see to the current plan.
Late last week, the chairs of advisory boards for the museum and library both sent letters to the board of commissioners; the chairs have laid out a number of key changes and additions they’d like to see to the Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, between the county and the Zimmer Development Company.
United States 1980 (P) Lincoln Cent
The
juxtapenultimate date struck from the majority-copper alloy in use since the early 1960s,
1980 Lincoln cents were struck and issued against a backdrop of uncertainty about the denomination, as successive administrations tested new compositions and pondered its elimination.
The coins themselves are not remarkably rare by any measure, but the years surrounding their issuance saw a shortage of cents in circulation, a problem that had dogged the
Treasury Department and the
United States Mint for years. This, alongside a major collectible, doubled die variety of the date and condition rarities at the upper end of the grading scale, make the 1980 Lincoln cent quite a bit more interesting to the collector than meets the eye.
