Donna Scirocco faces six counts of animal cruelty after authorities discovered 26 cats, six dogs, two squirrels, a blind owl and two large rats on her property. Police also found two dead cats and a deceased woodchuck. A few of the animals had to be euthanized. The rest were placed in animal shelters. Authorities were alerted when nearby residents complained of a smell coming from Scirocco’s home and rats roaming their neighborhood.

On Monday, Oct. 26, the Hamden Animal Control Division, with the assistance of animal control units from the State of Connecticut, Cheshire, East Haven, North Haven, and Southbury executed a search and seizure warrant at her residence, police said. Upon entering the home, animal control officers were greeted by two large rats. After conducting a thorough search, officers seized 26 cats, six dogs, two caged squirrels, and a blind owl, Smith said.
