JAMMU, Dec 23: With results of 278 out of 280 seats of the District Development Councils (DDCs) declared by the State Election Commission (SEC) today, the BJP emerged as single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir winning 75 seats followed by National Conference 67, and also secured highest 24.82 percent votes across the Union Territory, nearly eight percent more than the NC which dominated political scene of Jammu and Kashmir for past several years.
BJP Leads In 53 Seats Out Of 280, Independents Win 7 In Srinagar
JAMMU: As per inputs reported till 2 pm, BJP is witnessing a promising trend as it leads in 53 seats among the 280 District Development Council (DDC) constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
The detailed breakup revealed that while BJP was leading in 53 seats, National Conference had an edge in 20 seats, Congress in 13 seats with Jammu Kashmir Apni Party in 4 seats, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party in 2 seats, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan on one seat and independents were leading on 14 seats.
Meanwhile, Srinagar District Election Officer Dr. Shahid Choudhary announced the result for 14 DDC seats in Srinagar wherein Independents have won 7 seats, Apni Party emerged victorious at 3 seats while BJP, PDP, National Conference and Jammu & Kashmir People’s Movement won 1 seat each.
PAGD Loses A Seat In Srinagar But Leads The Tally Across Jammu Kashmir
SRINAGAR: By 1 pm, People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is leading on 67 seats out of 165 trends available so far in the ongoing District Development Council polls. So far officially there was only one results that was declared. It was Shaista Aslam winning from Harwan-I DDC segment against the PAGD’s Shazia Parvez.
Counting underway at Anantnag.
Shaista secured 474 votes while Shazia managed 345 votes.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead on 52 seats; Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on four seats; Congress on 13 and Independent candidates are leading on 26 seats.

Violence plan foiled in Poonch, 500 lathis, 2 vehicles seized; FIR lodged

JAMMU, Dec 21: Ahead of the counting for 280 seats of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow, Poonch police foiled a major plot by many candidates and their supporters to trigger large scale violence at the counting centre by seizing over 500 lathis, bats, hockeys and other such items from the vehicles which were heading from Mendhar, Mankote and Surankote to Poonch. Police have seized seven vehicles so far, arrested two persons, and lodged FIR against all the accused at Poonch police station.
