Your questions for how to socialize safely this Golden Week, answered

Apr 25, 2021 Spring is here, parks are busy with people enjoying the warmer weather and the country has (slowly) begun its much-anticipated vaccination program. It seems like things might just start getting back to normal or some semblance of it, anyway. But these glimmers of hope don’t mean that the situation in Japan is suddenly coming up roses. Dissatisfaction over the nation’s slow vaccine rollout, the ongoing discussion of whether to cancel the long-postponed Tokyo Olympics, and a fresh state of emergency in Tokyo, Osaka and Hyogo prefectures highlight that Japan is very much not out of hot water.

Park officials apologize for article on U S military flights : The Asahi Shimbun

The Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association is apologizing after taking flak over an article in a metropolitan park’s monthly newsletter that gushed over low-altitude flights by U.S. military aircraft and inferred that the association tolerates them. “There was a misleading statement in the (newsletter) that suggests we tolerate low-altitude flights and other practices, and we apologize deeply for inconveniencing local residents distressed about the noise and other issues,” the association said in a statement posted on its website on Feb. 22. The association, which is an extra-departmental body of the Tokyo metropolitan government, has retracted the issue of the newsletter and is asking subscribers to discard their copies.
