Foxconn s Battery Ambition Raises Doubts Among Experts

Ever since the Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn announced its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market, industry observers have been keen to know its details. Aiming to build the “Android of the EV industry”, Foxconn launched a platform that has since been dubbed as MIH. A global alliance has taken shape upon this open platform, including Qualcomm, MediaTek, Arm and STMicroelectronics.  While the platform will include a chassis as well as autopilot software, its endeavour in the battery sector attracts the most attention. The battery represents the most costly part of an electric vehicle, accounting for 30% of its cost. It is also a segment with high entry barriers.

The ITRI won a gold prize for its AI-Based High-Density Shuttle Rack Service System and a silver prize in the Primers, Coatings, and Dyes category for the institute’s microbial dye technology, MetabColor. The AI-Based High-Density Shuttle Rack Service System, which is an automated vertical warehousing system, is designed for space-starved cities. The rack can extend 14 stories, according to an ITRI press release.
