Trash trappers to be installed in Toledo waterways

TOLEDO, Ohio Every year, roughly 2,500 tons of garbage or five million pounds travel through our waterways and out into Lake Erie.
But thanks to a new partnership and federal dollars, that number could soon be drastically reduced. Too much of the trash is getting into the water and then the water carries it to the lake, and a lot of it then degrades into smaller and smaller pieces where we can t clean it up, said Edith Kippenhan, a senior environmental specialist for the city of Toledo.

TOLEDO, Ohio A 15-year-old boy is in custody and charged with the murder of a 74-year-old man at a central Toledo gas station on Wednesday night.
Toledo police say members of the Gang Task Force were conducting a suspect stop in the parking lot of the Mobil Gas Station at Detroit and Central avenues just before 10 p.m. when shots were fired into the parking lot from a vehicle.

TOLEDO, Ohio Brandon Stalker is being remembered not only as an officer, but as a man who aimed to serve in as many ways as he could.
At a candlelight vigil held Tuesday night, friends said he was a beloved member of the community. I lost my only son, Stalker s mother said, surrounded by more than 100 community members who shared in her pain. My son did his job and that s what he loved doing.
