They don’t make many football players like Archbishop Williams High senior Tyler Cooley anymore.
The fullback/linebacker is the heart and soul of the Bishops, who just finished a 5-2 season with a 43-6 win over Cardinal Spellman last month. It was the team’s first win against its Thanksgiving foe since 2017.
“He’s an old-school player,” said Archbishop Williams coach Matt Reggiannini. “You could put him in any decade and he could play. He’s tough. You could really build a team around that, especially a defense.”
Cooley has the look to match his play. He’s got big shoulder pads that hang out of his jersey that’s tucked in at the sleeves and eye black covering more of his face than not. And in true ironman fashion, after the Spellman win, there was blood on his nose.
