Residents Call For Proper Treatment Of Mashpee-Wakeby Pond Islands

Shorefront residents in the Mashpee-Wakeby Pond area are hoping for a proactive approach this year to deal with proper upkeep of the pond’s three islands. Cleveland, Keith and Jefferson Islands are three islands in Wakeby Pond that residents believe have been subject to mistreatment over the past several years. All three islands are an acre or less in size. “There’s trash being left out there, there’s people partying out there. There’s people sleeping out there, cutting down the growth out there, all those types of things,” said Dave Sampson, a resident of Cove Road in Sandwich, which is adjacent to the pond, about the typical summertime behavior.

The Alliance Review There’s little doubt that it was the perfect time for an event to help people cope. The year 2020 has an endless amount of suffering, as the COVID-19 crisis has impacted nearly all facets of our lives. First Christian Church in Alliance offered a bit of hope Sunday with its annual Blue Christmas service. During the event, area residents were encouraged to remember the losses they’ve suffered in 2020. Whether it was the death of a loved one, or loss of financial security, marriage or any other deeply troubling event, all were welcome to grieve and find healing with special words and music.
