Opinion/The Next Draft: Flying Dreams leaves Worcester – for now

For the first time in more than a decade, a brewery will not call the back of Peppercorn s Grille & Tavern home.
In October, Flying Dreams Brewing Co. moved out of the Park Avenue restaurant after Peppercorn’s owner Tom Oliveri opted not to renew the brewery’s lease. Flying Dreams took over the roughly 1,200-square-foot space in November 2015 when Wormtown Brewery moved production to its new brewery on Shrewsbury Street.
Now, technically, Worcester is down to five breweries: Wormtown, 3cross Fermentation Coop, Greater Good Imperial Brewing Co., Redemption Rock Brewing Co. and Bay State Brewing Co.

The Lamb & Flag in Oxford
Oxford Liberal Democrats have announced they will oppose any change of use application for the Lamb & Flag pub following its closure. Owners St John’s College announced last month that the historic hostelry in St Giles was closing as takings have fallen due to repeated coronavirus lockdowns. Party members in the city are also highlighting the option of the pub being named an Asset of Community Value, which would give a community group the opportunity to buy the pub and ensure new owners needed planning permission for any change of use or demolition, if a long-term commercial solution can’t be found.
Andy Sheldon landlord of the Marlborough House talks to one of the locals Mr Sheldon decided to pin the boxes above the bar and soon dozens of customers were doing the same. Another historic picture shows the scene just behind the Carpenters Arms in Botley Road shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. The two young lads in shirtsleeves are John and Peter Wren, sons of the landlord Ellis. There is still uncertainty about when pubs will open, with Boris Johnson due to unveil a roadmap out of the coronavirus lockdown on February 22. The Sun has reported that ministers are preparing to allow takeaway pints to be sold by pubs in April before they fully reopen in May.

Oxford Blues Over Virus Curbs On City s Historic Pubs By Anna MALPAS

The faded sign of The Lamb & Flag swung in the wind as staff removed barrels from one of Oxford s oldest pubs, which has closed permanently during the coronavirus lockdown.
As the 16th-century inn wound up its operations, Oxford landlords warned of the devastating impact of national lockdowns on the university city s cosy pubs.
Many were frequented by writers such as J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, and the fictional detective Inspector Morse, while they rely on student trade, social drinkers and tourists.
But like other English pubs, they have faced bans and restrictions since March last year and can currently only open for food delivery or takeaway.
