STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Health District is looking for county help coming up with the final $50,000 needed for its new Wellness on Wheels project.
At Thursday’s meeting of the county commissioners, Health Commissioner Andrew Henry said they’d secured an $85,000 grant from the J.C. Williams Trust in August for the mobile medical unit, and also allocated about $40,000 in COVID-19 funding.
Henry told commissioners they need to plug the funding gap by August or return the grant money.
Wellness on Wheels would take medical services including lab testing, vaccines, wellness screenings and health promotion on the road, reaching Jefferson County residents who otherwise might not be able to access them.

STEUBENVILLE When a project is taking longer than expected, it can draw concerns from residents.
Jefferson County Commissioner Tony Morelli said at Thursday’s commission meeting he’s received phone calls and heard concerns from residents and first responders in Bergholz over the current closure of the bridge on state Route 164.
“It’s not a county project, it’s a state project that’s basically came to a standstill,” Morelli said. “I’ve got several calls.”
Morelli said he had talked with state Rep. Ron Ferguson, R-Wintersville, and state officials about the matter.
“Talking to the state and talking to Representative Ferguson, there is a conflict between the state and the contractor,” he said, noting that Ferguson was told getting the bridge open again is “the highest priority” in ODOT District 11.

The airport authority, the minutes said, will immediately start the process to submit a request to the FAA for release of land for non-aeronautical use.
