Plans to demolish a 116-year-old mill in Oldham have been approved, paving the way for nearly 100 homes to be built in its place.
Kellen Homes has applied to build 99 homes on land in Royton that is currently occupied by the Vernon Works mill and warehouse buildings.
An application to demolish the former cotton mill, which was built in 1905 and designed by Arthur Turner, was approved by the local authority this month.
The mill had previously been occupied by the toy company Character Group, however a heritage statement says the building has become ‘dilapidated’.

Advanced Flavour Solutions has signed for a 20,000 sq ft industrial unit at the Salford business park, relocating from Sedgley Trading Estate in Prestwich.
The company, which creates liquids for electronic cigarettes, has signed a 10-year lease on the unit, known as Irwell Point, which is owned by Rossendale-based investor Alden Green.
Irwell Point forms part of Barnfield Construction’s Evolution scheme, which provides 200,000 sq ft of industrial space across 11 acres at Agecroft Business Park.
Barnfield built the unit in 2016 before it was bought by Alden Green and let to flower distributor Clogflower Wholesale.
However, Clogflower appointed liquidators last year and has since vacated the unit.
