Mr Slattery, who is now based in Brisbane with his family, returned home last week to partake in some Beef Australia 2021 activities.
He was among the panel of judges at the Pitch in the Paddock, dubbed the âShark Tankâ of agriculture technology.
There were nine finalists with a range of pitches from a castration knife handle, software for truck drivers, pig trap, floating water level sensor, software and apps.
âI loved it, the thing I liked about it, it was so diverse in every respect,â Mr Slattery said.
âYou had businesses that were really early on in their cycle, that were at the product end and were expanding â¦.an incredibly safe low-cost castration device and artificial intelligence data lag that they are going to use in the beef industry ⦠you couldnât get more diverse.â

Black Box Co was founded about 12 months ago by CEO Shannon Speight and COO Emma Black after the beef industry came to them with the issue.
The entrepreneurs then developed a solution so that farmers can see how their decisions on the paddocks affect the end result â the steak on the plate.
Mrs Speight has a genomics and breeding background and Mrs Black has experience across the entire supply chain and meat science.

Sitting as a deputy High Court judge in the Chancery Division, Halpern handled the shareholding dispute between two brothers with remarkable restraint, at one stage resisting the temptation to channel Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet.
Proceedings, the judge pointed out, started in November but have already spawned a number of interim hearings which have achieved little and which ‘appear to have been characterised by point-scoring on each side’.
A day before the latest hearing last month, the claimants submitted a 747-page bundle with no skeleton. After a bit of chasing, the claimants’ lawyer asked for a 10pm deadline (rejected by the court), and when it arrived the document ‘did little to assist’ in preparing for the hearing. The defendant was no better, emailing the skeleton at 6.10pm the day before the hearing, when of course the office was shut, and including two hours’ worth of background reading.
