Determined dad David Courtenay has climbed Mont Blanc and trekked 50 miles across the Arctic Circle - but he insists his latest challenge in aid of Robin House was his toughest yet. The 38-year-old endured sleep deprivation and extreme fatigue last month as he pushed himself to the limit to run four miles, every four hours for 48 hours. It is the latest in a series of epic feats which David has completed to raise cash for charities which have supported his son Adam, who was born with a rare brain condition. This time round the funds will be split between Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), which runs the Balloch children’s hospice.

With the Peoria mayor’s office and five city council seats at stake in Tuesday s municipal election, Thomas Bride expects turnout to be above average in the city – but that may not hold as true throughout the county.
Bride, the Peoria County Election Commission s executive director, said early voting participation is up 28% from two years ago, and noted February’s primary was up 6% over compared with recent primaries.
“I think we ll be above the primary election in the city of Peoria, but I think overall county-wide for this election, you re going to have areas where there s just not any really competitive races or there s maybe one, and then other areas where you have a lot of competitive races,” he said.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. Once a prominent attorney and deacon in the Catholic Church, Virgil Wheeler III, surrendered to Jefferson Parish authorities Monday, charged with sexual battery and indecent behavior with a juvenile. The alleged abuse reportedly happened in 2000 and 2001 when the victim was 10 or 11 years old.
“I think it’s a step in the right direction, that his victim or victims will receive justice,” said abuse survivor Kevin Bourgeois.

METAIRIE, La. An ordained Catholic deacon from Metairie was arrested Monday and charged with sexually molesting a 10-11-year-old boy two decades ago, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Virgil Maxey “V.M.” Wheeler III, 62, was booked into Jefferson Parish jail Monday on one count each of sexual battery and indecent behavior with a juvenile, Capt. Jason Rivarde said. Rivarde told The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate that Wheeler is suspected of performing oral sex on the boy in question and showering with him.
