Hillsdale tops conference-leading Kentucky Wesleyan

The Hillsdale College baseball team topped con­ference-leading Ken­tucky Wes­leyan Uni­versity on Sat­urday, April 17 to start the roadgame series. This was the first loss of the Pan­thers’ season so far. The Chargers pro­ceeded to lose the next three games, however, fin­ishing the weekend 1 – 3. Sat­urday, April 17 (Game 1): Hillsdale, 7, Ken­tucky Wes­leyan, 6 Senior David Toth started on the mound for the Chargers. He held the Pan­thers scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, facing 28 batters and striking out seven to earn the win.  “It was great to get it in game one,” head coach Eric Theisen said. “Game one is the tiebreaker between teams so we were hoping to come away with at least one more to have that tiebreaker, but boy, they were a tough team.”

Greenock street robbery accused man set for jury trial

A MAN charged with forcing open and stealing from cars at Greenock Golf Club then going on an alleged eight-vehicle vandalism spree is set for a sheriff court jury trial. Jamie Hill, 28, is accused of helping himself to whisky and golf clubs from a BMW 1 Series M Sport and Volvo V40. Prosecutors say he later robbed a woman after allegedly threatening her in a Larkfield street. Hill, of Davey Street, is also charged with vandalising the windscreens of numerous cars in August 2019. He has offered guilty pleas to a number of charges through lawyer David Tod but continues to deny robbing a woman of cash in the street.

Greenock social workers recommended non-custodial sentence for convicted knife thug

A CONVICTED blade thug who attacked a police officer was recommended by social workers for a non-custodial sentence after being caught with a knife and cocaine. Ross Gisbey who had a lock-back knife hidden in his underwear was considered suitable for an electronic tagging order, unpaid work and supervision, Greenock Sheriff Court was told. But lawman Andrew McIntyre declared he was not at all persuaded in view of 24-year-old Gisbey s terrible criminal record - and imposed a lengthy prison sentence on him. Gisbey and co-accused Andrew Sutherland, 25, were both caught with knives after police followed an Audi car the pair were travelling in to a dead-end at one o clock in the morning.
