On a rainy Saturday, the building was formally named the Dennis A. Thatcher Public Safety Complex, in honor of the town’s late fire chief who died of cancer in 2019. “It went off really well,” said David Alvord, the current fire chief. More than 100 people attended the dedication ceremony, which featured the unveiling of both a sign and a plaque.

Plainfield OKs pay for full-time police chief Published: 5/3/2021 7:50:33 PM PLAINFIELD Voters at Saturday’s Annual Town Meeting approved a pay increase that will allow the police chief to become a full-time position. Fire Chief David Alvord said there was “a lot of discussions pro and con” on the matter. But in the end, voters agreed on $107,892 for police pay, the amount requested in the budget. The money will serve to pay both the chief and other officers. Saturday afternoon’s Town Meeting was outdoors amid wind and cold, and Alvord said it drew more than 100 people. “We pulled it off,” he said.
