A woman who got out of her car at the entrance to a gated neighborhood was struck and critically injured by a truck on Wednesday morning in South Sarasota County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to FHP, a truck was stopped and waiting for a closed gate to open at Tangerine Woods Boulevard and North Indiana Avenue at about 11:44 a.m.
A 76-year-old Englewood woman pulled her vehicle in front of the truck and got out to call the office using the keypad at the gate.
The gate opened, allowing the truck to enter. The truck s driver, a 26-year-old Cape Coral man, steered his vehicle to the right to go around the woman s vehicle and through the open gate.
