Great Tastes is moving to fall
The show must go on. Futures are riding on it.
That s why canceling the Southeastern Community College Foundation s annual Great Tastes fundraiser for student scholarships was not an option in 2020 when COVID-19 abruptly put an end to in-person gatherings. And so, the Foundation had a week-long virtual party and online auction.
While Great Tastes will be live this year, another change is coming.
The traditional spring event is moving to the fall.
Great Tastes will start at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Pzazz Event Center, stepping into a venerable spot on the calendar formerly occupied for decades by Burlington Fine Arts League Gala, which took its final bow in 2019.

An electronic music concert is scheduled at Southeastern Community College for 6 p.m. Friday in the Little Theater on SCC s West Burlington campus.
Dr. Daniel Pappas will perform original music for saxophone.
Pappas is a music instructor at SCC since 2019 and is helping to expand the college s music programming with the introduction of digital production classes starting this fall. Tonight s performance will be a taste of what is to come for his students.
And talk about a live performance: Pappas composes his music in real time.
Pappas also will talk about how musicians are digitally altering the sound of acoustic instruments in today s music scene and will give a brief demonstration of his gear, as well as projecting an overhead video of it during his performance.

West Burlington, Ia- Southeastern Community College and the Capitol Theater entered into a one-year lease agreement beginning July 1, 2021.
The agreement will allow the college increased access and use of the building, as well as opportunities for student learning in the business of running an event facility. This agreement coincides with the college’s initiative to broaden performing arts programming.
The college is expanding its music offerings in the upcoming fall semester, introducing digital music production courses to coincide with its traditional offerings.
Music instructor Dr. Daniel Pappas looks forward to the opportunities that the space will lend to the program.
