Sixth candidate emerges in Holyoke mayor’s race

HOLYOKE Another candidate has entered the race to become Holyoke’s next mayor.
Gloria Caballero Roca, a 55-year-old academic and educator, announced her candidacy on Friday. A Holyoker for more than 20 years, the Whiting Avenue resident said that as an Afro-Cuban she is excited to be the only Latina to have announced their candidacy for the position.
“Holyoke is ready for a change,” she said. “I’m so excited. I think I could be a wonderful person who would like to involve people in policy making. I would love to see this happen.”

HOLYOKE – Months after entering the race for mayor of Holyoke, City Councilor Mike Sullivan officially launched his campaign publicly.
Sullivan is the third candidate to officially announce his intent to seek the city’s highest office with Councilor Rebecca Lisi and School Committee member Devin Sheehan announcing their campaigns at the beginning of the year.
His announcement came on April 20 in the form of a YouTube video where Sullivan visited several locations in Holyoke while explaining his platform and intentions. Sullivan began the almost four-minute long video with various shots of the city, including the Holyoke Water Power Company hydroelectric facilities.

HOLYOKE A fifth candidate for city mayor has officially announced his campaign.
Holyoke’s Joshua Garcia, a graduate of the city’s public schools and the current town administrator in Blandford, announced Thursday that he will add his name to the list of candidates seeking to occupy room 1 in City Hall.
Garcia, 35, has a master’s degree in public administration from Westfield State University and has served as Blandford’s town administrator since 2018. Prior to that, he worked as a municipal services manager with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and as a property manager with the Holyoke Housing Authority. He previously served as a member of the Holyoke School Committee.

HOLYOKE Joshua A. Garcia will launch a mayoral bid, expanding the field to five declared candidates.
Garcia, Blandford’s town administrator and a former Holyoke School Committee member, released a statement Thursday announcing his mayoral run.
“My vision for Holyoke is one shared by residents from every corner of the city, and that is to cultivate an environment within our local government and our neighborhoods that are sustainable, practical and inclusive,” Garcia stated.
Ex-Morse aide launches mayoral bid in Holyoke

HOLYOKE The field of candidates for city mayor is growing, with a fourth candidate launching his campaign this week.
William “Billy” Glidden, previously an aide to former mayor Alex Morse, announced his bid for City Hall’s corner office on Monday. He joins School Committee member Devin Sheehan and at-large city councilors Michael Sullivan and Rebecca Lisi as the candidates who have thus far entered the race.
In a speech at his campaign kickoff event, Glidden said he is running for mayor to foster “good-faith deliberations and cooperation instead of endless conflict,” according to a news release from the event.
