Devin M. Sheehan, a longtime member of the Holyoke School Committee, announced Friday he plans to run for mayor.

HOLYOKE Describing himself as a leader who brings people together, School Committee member Devin Sheehan said Friday that he will run for mayor.
In a press event held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheehan stressed priorities including business growth, better communication with residents about city services and bringing the public school district back under local control.
“I am ready to be a mayor that is responsive to the needs of its citizens,” said Sheehan, the first candidate to make a formal announcement following Mayor Alex B. HOLYOKE The empty field of candidates to replace outgoing Mayor Alex Morse began filling up Friday.
Two of the city’s elected officials announced their candidacies for the position within hours of each other: At-Large School Committee member Devin Sheehan and At-Large City Councilor Rebecca Lisi.
Morse announced in December that he would not seek reelection to a fifth term in office. Morse was first elected mayor at age 22 in 2011. He lost the Democratic primary for the 1st Congressional District House seat held by U.S. Rep. Richard Neal in September.
