NEW DELHI: The Covid-19 situation in Delhi is very serious with 10,732 fresh cases of infection being reported in the last 24 hours, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.
He asked people not to go out of their homes unless it is urgent, and use face masks and sanitisers and maintain social distance.
The chief minister said his government does not want to impose lockdown. I believe lockdown is not a solution to deal with Covid-19. It should only be imposed if the hospital system collapses, he said.

NEW DELHI: Of the 14,589 Covid patients in Delhi, 7,983 (55%) are under home isolation. Most of these patients are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
Doctors say it’s important for patients who are under home isolation to keep in touch with a physician during isolation either through teleconsultation or periodic visit. “Low levels of oxygen saturation, persistent cough, breathlessness and feeling very weak should be treated as warning signs,” Dr Sumit Ray, head of department of critical care at Holy Family Hospital, said.
Dr Suresh Kumar, medical director of Lok Nayak Hospital, said that delayed admission was one of the main factors behind deterioration in condition and, in some cases, death due to Covid-19. “Some people keep taking medicine on their own. And when the situation goes out of hand, they rush to the hospital. We have seen cases where assistive ventilation was necessitated due to delayed admission,” he added.

NEW DELHI: The Test Positivity Rate the number of positive cases from those tested of Covid-19 in Delhi crossed five per cent on Monday, a landmark figure that reflects how the disease has spiraled out of control.
In the past 24 hours, the state health department said a total of 64,003 people underwent Covid testing (43,960 via RT-PCR method and 20,043 via rapid antigen testing). Of them, 3,548 returned a positive result.
Dr N K Mehra, emeritus scientist and former dean of AIIMS, said TPR going above the 5% mark clearly shows that the infection is unmanageable. “In January, the test positivity rate in Delhi had come down to around 1%. It remained low till about two weeks ago. But now, the positivity rate is rising rapidly leading to exponential rise in cases,” the doctor said.
