NEW DELHI: The recent case of a young couple jailed in Qatar on drugs-related charges and now exonerated through efforts over two years by Union ministry of external affairs (MEA) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has led to India and Qatar initiating the process of signing an memorandum of understanding for better coordination and cooperation in crackdown on international narco cartels.
The move comes in the wake of revelations that international drug traffickers have been using innocent passengers to unknowingly carry drugs in their luggage and the possibility of them being jailed. MEA and NCB are at the end stage of drafting a proposal to have a structured dialogue mechanism between the two countries on drugs-related issues, sources said.
It was informed that a woman, Tabassum, who was related to Shareeq, and her associate Nizam Kara, had offered them a honeymoon package and sent them to Qatar with luggage that had the contraband.
NEW DELHI: A syndicate called the “Kasargod Network”, which uses unsuspecting individuals to smuggle drugs from India to middle-eastern countries, is currently being tracked by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The authorities at airports in Qatar arrest 10-15 Indians with narcotics every month and a majority of such cases are linked to this network.
Intelligence reports have revealed that the key members of this network are based in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kerala and Bengaluru and communicate through VoIP.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has deployed Jaguar Highway patrolling teams at vulnerable stretches in the north district in a bid to curb street crime, officials said. The initiative has led to the arrest of 21 criminals till March 15, they said.
According to police, 16 thieves, two robbers, two people with illegal arms and a snatcher have been nabbed by the patrolling staff. To curb street crime in north Delhi, a new initiative of deploying Jaguar Highway Patrol Teams at vulnerable stretches, especially Outer Ring Road, was introduced on December 26 last year. The teams have been deployed at their designated stretches in three shifts, which keep patrolling the area round-the-clock, a senior police officer said.

Delhi records 4,033 coronavirus cases; death toll reaches 11,081
Delhi recorded as many as 4,033 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday. With this, the tally of COVID-19 cases in the national capital has reached over 6.76 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 11,081.
