The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi announced a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon.
The rain is expected to continue through Sunday.
As of 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, the weather service said residents should expect frequent lightning, harsh winds and small hail during today s storms.
Just before 8:15 a.m., crews for the Texas Department of Transportation began rerouting traffic off the U.S. Highway 77 frontage roads between Robstown and Calallen because of rising water. Several roads have closed due to weather.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop across South Texas Wednesday due to a slow moving storm system. Flash flooding and rapid rises in streams and rivers were anticipated because of periods of heavy rainfall.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas Students from Del Mar College are marking the next chapter of their lives with a virtual spring graduation ceremony, but there is one graduate in particular who is standing out because of the unique way he found to honor his grandfather. His grandfather also happens to be a Del Mar College graduate.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â A pinning ceremony held Thursday evening recognized dozens of Flour Bluff junior and seniors for completing one or more certifications through Del Mar College.
Students received honors for completing programs in disciplines like Electrocardiography (EKG), Phlebotomy, âPatient Care Technicianâ and âBasic Medical Assistant.â
Leonard Rivera, the Dean of Continuing Education and Off-Campus Programs, was the guest speaker. He said he knows what the students went through wasnât easy.
âThese young men and women that have garnered these very difficult, rigorous healthcare credentials here in Flour Bluff are going to have opportunity galore once they graduate and walk the stage here from their high school years and transition into their post secondary adult years,â River

Del Mar College and Texas A&M-Kingsville have announced a five-year partnership to expand edcuational opportunities for their students.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â A big day for students in the Coastal Bend. On Wednesday, Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Kingsville signed a partnership to expand education opportunities for students.
The five year agreement is an expansion of the relationship between the schools.
With this partnership, students at both campuses will have access to all of the resources and services they need, including financial aid, distance education and admissions.
