CDC data shows Sussex County entering Covid-19 red zone

The state’s southernmost county is now in the red zone, thanks to a substantial level of community transmission. The transmission rate for Kent and Sussex counties is still listed as moderate, although cases numbers are rising in all three counties.
The higher transmission rate comes after the CDC changed its guidance and now advises that even vaccinated individuals should wear masks indoors in areas with high case rates, a category that may include Sussex.
Signs point to vaccinated individuals carrying the virus, perhaps a reflection of faster-spreading strains making their way into the state.

Growing interest in the vaccine
At Mountaire Farms’ poultry plants in Millsboro and Selbyville, the company is waiting for the call that the COVID-19 vaccine is on its way, said Catherine Bassett, the company s director of communications and community relations.
“We think it’s going to be the most important tool we have to stop the spread of this virus,” Bassett said.
Both Mountaire and Perdue Farms, two of the major poultry companies in Sussex County and Delmarva, have started planning for the vaccine since word spread of its availability.
