The weekend marked Memorial Day in honor of Americans who lost their lives while serving in the military. In his speech commemorating the occasion, President Joe Biden remembers his late son, Beau Biden, while calling for unity.
“I know how much the loss hurts. I know the black hole it leaves in the middle of your chest,” said Biden, who made his speech at the Veterans Memorial Park near the Delaware Memorial Bridge. “I promise you, the day will come when the mention of the name of your son or daughter, husband, wife they will, in fact, bring not a tear to your eye, but a smile to your lips. I hope that day comes sooner than later.”

Germany officially acknowledged its role in perpetuating genocide in Namibia in the past and has agreed to pay the state 1.1 billion dollars over the next 30 years.
Like many other European countries at the time, Germany possessed a colony in South West Africa (modern day Namibia) in the early part of the 20th century and was responsible for killing up to 110,000 people in the region.
This announcement from the German Foreign Minister comes only hours after France made a similar remark in relation to the role they played in the lead up to and during Rwandan Genocide.

U.S. President Joe Biden paid tribute Sunday to the nation s war dead on the eve of his first Memorial Day as the country s commander-in-chief. We must remember the price that was paid for our liberties, Biden said at the War Memorial Plaza near the Delaware Memorial Bridge. We must remember the debt we owe those who have paid it, and the families left behind. My heart is torn in half by the grief.
Biden delivered remarks on the sixth anniversary of the death of his son Beau, who served as a major in the Delaware Army National Guard, including a tour of duty with U.S. forces in Iraq before dying of cancer in 2015.
