Germany officially acknowledged its role in perpetuating genocide in Namibia in the past and has agreed to pay the state 1.1 billion dollars over the next 30 years.
Like many other European countries at the time, Germany possessed a colony in South West Africa (modern day Namibia) in the early part of the 20th century and was responsible for killing up to 110,000 people in the region.
This announcement from the German Foreign Minister comes only hours after France made a similar remark in relation to the role they played in the lead up to and during Rwandan Genocide.
