HOUSTON – You may have noticed a lot of roadwork by the West Beltway and Westpark Tollway in the Westchase District. Most of this construction kicked off in 2019 with the new reconstruction of Walnut Bend and then the work came on Westheimer, which carries METRO’s busiest local bus route. Most recently, a small but crucial bike connection was finished.
What used to be a narrow busted sidewalk is now replaced with a nice smooth path leading to a properly protected bike lane from the West Beltway southbound feeder into Deerwood westbound, with the ability to connect riders to Terry Hershey Park. Irma Sanchez, the vice president of projects with the Westchase District Project division, took KPRC 2′s Anavid Reyes on a ride to experience the bike lane first-hand.
Embrace the Houston weather.
âOne of the biggest factors of Wings For Life is that everyone has their own conditions,â says Neff. âSo you might have somebody in Europe where the weather is actually quite nice, but in Houston it s awful. So that s a big, big factor, but last year I just decided to have fun with it.â Â
But there s a benefit to humidity, says Neff. âWe call it poor man s altitude,â he says. âThere is an actual physiological aspectâlike athletes go to altitude to train because it increases their red blood cell content, which is really the special formula for endurance running. But humidity has a similar effect in that it increases your blood volume. So you have more blood, which in turn has more red blood cells.

HOUSTON – If you’re an avid cyclist, be on the lookout for speed limit signs on some popular bike trails in Houston. Ten miles-per-hour signs are now in place at Terry Hershey and George Bush Park.
Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Steve Radack put in place the signs about a week ago. He says deputy constables are making sure people comply with the new rule.
“What we are trying to do is keep everyone safe cyclist as well as pedestrians that’s the reason for it,” he said.
